WHITE PASSAGE™ FOR FAITH & PURPOSE

When You No Longer Know What You Believe—or What You’re Living For

Loss, betrayal, failure, suffering, disappointment, or a major life change can shake the beliefs and sense of purpose that once gave your life direction.

You may still have faith. You may be questioning everything. Or you may simply no longer know what any of it is for.

“If what I believed was true, how am I supposed to make sense of what happened?”

—The Believer

THE SHATTERING

When the Answers You Lived By Stop Working

Faith and purpose can quietly become some of the strongest reference points in a person’s life.

They help answer questions like:

  • Why am I here?
  • What is good?
  • What can I trust?
  • What makes suffering bearable?
  • What is worth giving my life to?

When those answers become uncertain, the loss can reach far beyond religion.

You may find yourself asking:

  • Do I still believe what I used to believe?
  • If God is good, why did this happen?
  • Was my faith really mine—or was it something I inherited?
  • What if the people or institution I trusted were wrong?
  • What gives my life meaning now?
  • What am I actually living toward?

When the beliefs or purpose that once gave you direction stop making sense, you can lose more than answers. You can lose your bearings.

↓ When the your faith or purpose changes your life this deeply, you’ve entered the Abyss.

THE ABYSS

“The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me…” — Jonah 2:5

When You No Longer Know What to Believe

A faith crisis does not always mean you stopped believing in God.

You may still believe and feel angry, confused, abandoned, or unable to reconcile what happened with what you were taught.

You may no longer trust a church, religious leader, institution, philosophy, or worldview that once seemed certain.

Or faith may not be the main issue at all.

You may have spent years building a career, raising children, caring for others, achieving goals, or simply surviving—and suddenly find yourself asking:

What am I doing all of this for?

The pressure to find an answer can make things worse.

You may feel that you should believe more strongly, return to your old faith, abandon it completely, find a new purpose, or pretend you are certain when you are not.

The Abyss begins when the beliefs and purposes that once helped you understand life no longer provide a direction you can honestly follow.

↓ White Passage is the way through.

THE WHITE PASSAGE

Work Through the Questions Before You Force an Answer

White Passage gives you a structured way to examine what changed, what you actually believe, what still matters, and what feels worth living toward.

The goal is not to tell you what to believe. It is to help you find a position you can stand in honestly.

Depending on your situation, we may work through:

  • What Actually Shattered?

    Faith & Life Reconstruction

Look at what happened and why it changed the way you understand God, faith, meaning, purpose, or your future.

    Beliefs, Expectations & Assumptions

Separate what you actually believed from what you expected God, faith, or life to guarantee.

    The Question Under the Question

Identify what is really troubling you—God’s goodness, fairness, protection, suffering, unanswered prayer, purpose, meaning, or something else.

  • What Did You Believe Was Supposed to Happen?

    God vs. Expectations of God

Separate beliefs about who God is from expectations about what God was supposed to prevent, provide, or make happen.

    Borrowed vs. Chosen Beliefs

Look at what came from family, church, teachers, tradition, or culture and what you genuinely believe for yourself.

    What the Shattering Changed

Identify which beliefs still hold, which have changed, and which questions remain honestly unresolved.

  • What Still Holds?

    Faith That Remains

Identify beliefs, practices, relationships, or convictions that still feel real even after what happened.

    Meaning & Purpose

Explore what still matters and what can make life meaningful without requiring a perfect explanation for what happened.

    Reality-Based Hope

Separate hope from guarantees about how life, God, or the future must turn out.

  • What Can You Move Toward Now?

    Your Real Questions

Identify which questions need more thought, study, conversation, or time rather than forcing yourself into quick certainty.

    Purpose From Where You Are

Explore a direction based on your real responsibilities, relationships, abilities, convictions, opportunities, and current life.

The goal is not to tell you what you must believe. It is to help you understand what shattered, what still holds, and what kind of faith or purpose can honestly guide you from here.

You do not have to replace one certainty with an other. The goal is to recover enough clarity to know what you genuinely believe, what remains unresolved, and what is still worth moving toward.

↓ The Far Side is where clarity returns.

THE FAR SIDE

The Far Side Is Not Having Every Answer

You may reach the Far Side with questions you still cannot answer.

You may believe differently than you did before. You may return to parts of your old faith with greater conviction—or leave some parts behind. You may discover that purpose is not one grand answer but a clearer understanding of what deserves your time, love, work, and attention.

The Far Side means you no longer have to pretend certainty in order to have direction.

You know more clearly what you believe.

You know what you are still questioning.

You know what matters enough to keep pursuing.

And you have something you can honestly begin living toward.

↓ You don’t need all the answers to begin.

“The goal is not to sail as though storms no longer exist. The goal is to raise your sails again knowing that they do.”

—Thomas Minieri

Questions We Take Seriously

Faith and purpose are full of answers that get repeated so often they can start to sound like fact.
  • Everything happens for a reason.
  • You just need to trust God more.
  • God has a plan.
  • Maybe this happened to teach you something.
  • You just need to find your purpose.

Sometimes those ideas are helpful. Sometimes they arrive before the real questions have been worked through. White Passage is willing to look closer.

  • If God Is Good, Why Did This Happen?

There may not be a simple answer.

White Passage does not try to explain why God allowed a particular loss, betrayal, illness, injustice, or collapse.

Instead, we look at what the event changed in the way you understand God, faith, yourself, and the world.

    What did you believe before?

What did you expect God to protect you from?

What did you think faith was supposed to guarantee?

    What now feels uncertain?

The goal is not to explain God. It is to understand what shattered in your own map of faith.

  • Did I Lose Faith—or Did I Lose an Assumption About Faith?

Those are not always the same thing.

You may still believe in God while no longer believing that faith guarantees protection, fairness, success, safety, or a certain kind of future.

You may still care deeply about your faith while questioning teachings or expectations you once took for granted.

    White Passage helps separate:

    what you believe about God

    from

what you believed God was supposed to do.

    That distinction can change everything.

  • Do I Just Need to Trust God More?

    Maybe trust matters.

But telling someone to “trust God more” can become another way of avoiding the harder questions.

What exactly are you being asked to trust?

    Which beliefs are actually yours?

Which came from family, church, teachers, culture, or other people?

Which parts of your faith still hold when life does not turn out the way you expected?

Faith that survives reality may look different from faith that depended on certainty.

  • Do I Need to Figure Out My Purpose?

    Not immediately.

After a major disruption, “find your purpose” can feel like one more impossible assignment.

Purpose does not have to begin with a grand calling or a perfect answer about what you were put on Earth to do.

    It may begin much smaller:

    What still matters?

    Who matters?

    What responsibilities are actually yours?

What are you capable of contributing now?

What kind of life would still feel meaningful from where you really are?

You do not need a perfect purpose before you can begin moving again.

  • What If I Can’t Go Back to the Faith or Purpose I Had Before?

You may not be able to.

And that does not automatically mean you have failed.

    Some beliefs may remain.

    Some may need to change.

    Some questions may stay open.

Some parts of your old understanding may prove stronger because they survive what happened.

Other parts may no longer fit.

White Passage is not about forcing you back to the person you were before.

It is about discovering what still holds when the old answers no longer do.

  • How Is White Passage Different From Therapy?

Therapy can be valuable for emotional health, grief, trauma, relationships, mental health, and many other needs.

White Passage is designed around a different question:

How do I regain my bearings when what happened has changed the way I understand God, meaning, purpose, or the direction of my life?

That means we may work through what shattered, what you used to believe, what you assumed, what still feels true, what questions remain open, what matters now, and what kind of direction is supported by the life in front of you.

White Passage is not theology, pastoral counseling, or open-ended processing.

There is a passage we are working through together.

You remain the one who decides where it leads.

YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS

You Don’t Have to Know Who You’re Becoming Yet

You may feel pressure to reinvent yourself, choose a new direction, become more confident, or figure out who you are now.

But when an important part of your identity has been shattered, forcing a new answer too quickly can create another identity you eventually have to escape.

You do not need the final answer to begin.

White Passage starts with where you are now—what changed, what you used to believe about yourself, what you believe now, what still feels true, and what you need to understand before deciding who or what comes next.

White Passage™ is a structured 90-day journey for people whose lives have been disrupted deeply enough that they no longer know what to believe, what matters now, or what to do next.

You begin with the White Passage Survey to establish where you are.

Then, over nine stages, you work privately with White Passage author Thomas Minieri while moving through the Captain’s Log—33 guided entries that help you understand what shattered, why you ended up in the Abyss, regain your bearings, test a path forward, and reach the Far Side.

This is not an open-ended series of conversations. There is a passage we are working through together.

Navigator's Instruments

Your passage includes tools chosen for your situation. For faith and purpose, these may include:

  • faith-shattering reconstruction

At the end of your 90 days, we bring the passage together: what you now understand, what may remain uncertain, what matters, what direction you have chosen, and what you need to watch as you move forward.

You leave with a clearer map—not just memories of the conversations that got you there.
